Tips to Reduce Plastic at Home
At Healthy Poke, we are deeply committed to protecting the environment, and all our orders are packaged in cardboard containers. Today, we want to take it a step further through our blog and share some tips on how to reduce plastic in your home.

With these simple tips, we can all help the planet and prevent its harmful effects.
Let’s get started!
Use Cloth Bags
The first of our tips is as classic as it is effective. Cloth bags and sacks have been used for decades, and today their use is making a comeback.
It’s a simple practice—just carry a cloth bag in your backpack or purse for unexpected shopping trips throughout the day. These bags are perfect for grocery shopping and, in general, for any store you visit.
Not only are they very beneficial for the environment, but they also offer other advantages. Among them, they allow better breathability, preventing moisture, and they’re much more durable.
Buy in Bulk
Another tip for reducing plastic at home is buying in bulk. This was a common practice before the widespread use of plastic, and it helps local businesses save on packaging.
Buying in bulk not only reduces plastic waste but also allows you to purchase exactly the amount you need, which is great for reducing food waste and saving money.
Glass Jars
For our bulk purchases, it can be very helpful to keep glass jars from products we’ve bought at the supermarket, like olives, lupins, or pickles.
By doing this, we’re not only avoiding the use of plastic packaging but also recycling the jars we’ve already purchased. It’s a great way to repurpose items and minimize waste.
Biodegradable Trash Bags
A more modern option that we’re increasingly seeing in supermarkets is biodegradable trash bags.
By using these bags, if we sort our organic waste beforehand and place it in them, everything inside will be 100% biodegradable. It’s an excellent way to reduce plastic waste and contribute to a more sustainable waste management system.
Compost Bin
Directly related to the daily waste we produce, a great alternative if you have a garden at home is a compost bin.
This option is perfect if you enjoy gardening and want to turn your organic waste into a valuable fertilizer for your plants. It’s a sustainable way to reduce waste while helping your garden thrive.
Products Made from Natural Materials
The last of our tips for reducing plastic at home is to get into the habit of buying products made from natural materials.
By doing so, we’ll slow down plastic production, reduce the demand for plastic items, and encourage the use of alternatives. Some examples include plates and cutlery made from wheat, bamboo, or corn.
Another alternative for daily life is using cloth napkins during meals or wooden clothespins for hanging laundry, among many other examples, such as using more cardboard.
In fact, at all Healthy Poke restaurants, we use cardboard packaging to protect the planet and deliver our delicious poke bowls with every order.
