27 Sep What to do in Madrid on the weekend of July 14?
From Tapas, we bring you the best plans to make the most of the weekend in Madrid, enjoying a mix of cultural and gastronomic experiences, parties, events, and museums. Take note of our weekly suggestions!
FRIDAY, JULY 14
We kick off Friday by disconnecting from work and indulging our senses at the iconic Ikigai Velázquez, a design space that transports us to 1980s New York. Here, you can try the new KOrto menu — a culinary expression of Chef Yong Wu Nagahira’s Japanese finesse. This five-course menu includes delights like vegetable tempura, three classic nigiris, and three fusion nigiris, highlighting options like hamachi or scallop nigiri with foie, eel sauce, Maldon salt, and egg threads. A burst of flavors and textures continues with the temaki of the day, made with ingredients such as classic tuna or salmon wrapped in crispy seaweed, and finishes with a mochi reinterpreted in various versions.
As night falls, a big moment arrives: Harry Styles’ concert in Madrid. The British pop singer-songwriter will perform at the newly opened Iberdrola Music space, inaugurated during the last edition of the Mad Cool Festival. Harry Styles will electrify his fans with the energy, spectacle, and excitement of his “Love on Tour,” presenting hits from his Fine Line album like “Watermelon Sugar” and “Lights Up.”
For those without concert tickets or who aren’t Harry Styles fans, there’s the option of an outdoor movie screening at Hotel Emperador. On Friday night, they’ll be showing Kika, one of Pedro Almodóvar’s most iconic films, featuring Verónica Forqué as a naive makeup artist assigned the unusual task of doing makeup for a corpse.
SATURDAY, JULY 15
On Saturday, we dive into the philosophy of healthy eating at Healthy Poke, located inside the Food Hall at Galerías Canalejas — a luxurious gastronomic gallery in the heart of Madrid featuring over 20 culinary spaces.
At Healthy Poke, we can choose one of our favorite poke bowls: the tuna and truffle bowl. This dish features a sushi rice base with bluefin tuna, confit tomato, sliced avocado, poached egg, crispy onion, and a light truffle sauce made with 100% natural ingredients. For dessert, there’s a delicious passion fruit and chia cake.
Saturday night brings a special event at The Madrid Edition, where we can enjoy the new Brandy Carlos I cocktails to celebrate summer from this designer boutique’s rooftop. There, you can also try three varieties of Lov Ferments Kombucha — perfect for mixology lovers — with flavors like moringa, ginger and mint, a fruitier blend with blueberry and lavender, and another made with mandarin, turmeric, and pepper.
From there, we head to Fitz Club, the newest trendy nightclub in the city, located in the heart of Plaza de España. This venue evokes a 1920s atmosphere through an innovative concept that blends technology and music with natural elements, organic shapes, and lush greenery — creating a truly unique experience.
SUNDAY, JULY 16
On Sunday, we’ll enjoy brunch at BRUNCHIT in Chueca, offering a flexitarian and artisanal menu inspired by global flavors, nature, travel, and various cuisines, according to its founder, Lydia Nieto.
At BRUNCHIT, we can savor gourmet coffee prepared by professional baristas, along with a rich menu including options like EGG Porn — organic poached eggs on brioche with spinach, avocado, turkey, melted cheese, and hollandaise sauce. You can also try the Naughty Salmon, made with two slices of sourdough topped with cucumber carpaccio, smoked salmon, and a homemade cream of cheese, dill, and lemon. Other menu items include sandwiches, toast, burgers, salads, and bowls.
In the afternoon, we’ll wind down the weekend with a physical theater play at Sala La Usina. La resta de les coses is a piece that explores the cost of emotional bonds and relational dynamics in intimate relationships. It invites the audience to see themselves reflected in a unique and special world that emerges from the depths of human connection.
